Engaging with Ephemerality

A river flows between two lines. She crosses, it is flood, she recedes, it is drought. The river has been perceived as a collection of varied temporal, ever changing moments. The difference in the natural behaviour of the river and the human imagination of it leads the human to control and engineer it. This notion led to the project titled- Engaging with Ephemerality: An intersection between the seasonal river and the infrastructure lines. The project confronts the challenges of future urban pressures exerted by the growing city and demonstrates how a hyper urban landscape can intersect with the dynamics of a seasonal river in an ecologically sensitive manner. The project considers time as an element and creates new opportunities for the people to engage with the ephemeral landscape while co-existing with their fellow denizens. A new season, a new cycle of life- the Sabarmati lends a fraction of herself, a fraction of her time to the people.
