Expedition sound

Choreographing an auditory experience

The Sabarmati river edge has a unique sound experience. The PDPU bridge passing through the site carries the sound of heavy traffic. In the coming years, with the increase in urban sprawl, the noise levels of anthrophonic sounds may increase which will be a threat to the faunal diversity, especially birds of the Sabarmati river. Therefore, the project seeks to enhance the sound experience by orchestrating the existing sounds with a series of new melodies and reshaping the relationship between ecology and the urban system. The intervention re-imagines the soundscape ecology while creating a public place. The project aims to create, enhance and also expand the habitats of endangered birds using sound as a tool. These habitats would not only serve as a home to many birds but will also help protect the sensitive river edge from harsh natural and manmade disturbances. The project also provides an opportunity to create a musically sensitized and enhanced environment.
