Ramlila is a complex story built in layers of characters, plot, and context. The characters of Ramlila experience a change in their relative position in the story, for example, Ram being born as the prince, had to sacrifice the kingship for the exile. The edge of Banaras demonstrates the reaching towards the water in diverse situations with changing slopes, architectural styles, temples of different deities, kings, and queens who built it, materials, colors, and devotees finding their paths crossing each destination. Transposition means the process of changing something from one position to another. In context to the ghats of Varanasi, people relate the physical element of the ghat to the spiritual and ritual aspects of the god. There is no gradual transition between the building and the ghats, and one cannot perceive what is inside the building by looking at the ghat and façade of the building. There is no connection between the inside to the outside, hence the design aims to connect the inside to the outside. The temple’s center is being transposed on the site, creating a boundary that the site lacks in context to the Kund.
