Natya - Mandapa

Natya-Mandapa is designed for a classical theatrical play - Ramanattam; a Kathakali play for Ramlila. Ramlila demonstrates heroic performance of gods, demons and other natural beings, which makes the audience respond with BhaktiBhav. The epic divided into multiple scenes is filled with an aspect of Darshan-an act of seeing, for the devotees and the actors.
The steep section of KEDAR ghat in Banaras between the temple and the water edge though offers direct continuity, it disconnects vision from the adjoining ghats.
Keywords : Classical drama, Kathakali, Stepwell, Temple courtyard, Darshan, performance.
