Enhancing Urban Governance: Sewerage

Himatnagar is a Class II town and district headquarter of Sabar Kantha district in Gujarat, India. The study focuses on sewerage and sanitation service delivery, infrastructural development, operational efficiency and sustainability. Himatnagar has excellent coverage of the sewerage network and its own Sewage Treatment Plant. However the municipal council spends extensively on O&M of the Inspection chambers due to dumping of sanitary waste. The STP produces 7.5 MLD treated waste water which isn’t reused. The proposals focus on developing a treated-wastewater reuse strategy leading to income generation and a behavior change program for appropriate disposal of sanitary waste.
