WARD MANAGEMENT (focus on community and public toilets)

The ward management studio this year was on Vasna Ward. The initial focus was on understanding the various utilities at the site through a systems study, from the consumer and the ULB's point of view. The next part was identifying the gaps in service delivery and choosing 4 major problem areas. Post that, each member of the group worked on one particular area. My focus area was on devising a management plan for the efficient working of the public and community toilets at the Ward.

For tackling the issue a three way strategy is used i.e. revamp the existing toilet and construct new units as per Swachh Bharat guidelines, develop a maintenance regime and ensure usage. Also involving all the 3 stakeholders including the users, government and the NGO will result in creating a sustainable toilet model.

The focus was also looking into the requirements of the floating population, and hence a management plan for the public toilets was necessary.
