Water is one of the essential elements of life as all living beings and the environment is dependent on it. To have sustainable growth and development availability of water resource is considered as a vital element. But due to rapidly increasing population demand for water has increased which has led to decline in the availability of water resources. Such situation has made it mandatory to manage and value the available water.  Currently, in the urban areas, the water system is not sustainable enough to take care of its demand. As a secure water supply system in the urban area is needed to provide the required quality of life to the citizens, so it is critically important to manage water resource effectively. But the lifestyle of citizens in urban areas is such that it creates many issues like over-use (over-consumption) of water, over-exploitation of groundwater and many more.  The purpose of planning for water is to ensure the secure the water supply now and in the long term with the consideration all the factors.
