Ground Water Resources

Groundwater resources form an important element of urban water supply but formal urban water supply in India rarely considers the groundwater resources in urban planning. Increased demand in context with the limited surface water supply and iniquitous distribution of water has meant consumers more rely upon groundwater without making effort to understand it or learn how to take care of it results in overexploitation of the precious, fresh and clean resource. Further, no punitive action (including the imposition of fine) has been taken anywhere even though the number of over-exploited, critical and semi-critical units are increasing. This leads us to do a scope for detailed groundwater assessment for Ahmedabad city.
