Lakeside Rendezvous: Journey to the Lake

Climate change is one of the most serious issues that we are facing today. Ahmedabad city has seen one of the worst effects of climate change with untimely rains, cloud bursts, flooding etc. Due to this most of the excess water runs-off the surface depleting the ground water table. To combat this issue, AMC and AUDA initiated a lake interlinking project so that the excess water can be collected and channeled to other catchment bodies if needed. But these infrastructural systems lack the grass-root level connections. Economically weaker sections of the society have to face the harshest repercussions of climate change as they cannot afford or avail these infrastructural developments. Thus, Lakeside Rendezvous is an attempt to connect to such areas, to the last mile possible. The method used to do so is to connect low lying areas via a channel of bioswales, in the informal settlement of Vanjaravas, Ahmedabad and channel it into Narol lake which is a part of the site. The lake will be integrated to a system of interlinkage of lakes on a city level and the proposed cluster will be connected to the Kharikat canal for discharging excess water collected from the lake.

Since the focus of my design was on issues related to water, shown above is the climate analysis and site conditions during heavy rains.
