The project focuses on addressing the climatic stress of flooding caused by the annual overflow of a lake in the low-lying area of Vanjaravaas, Narol. The project is particularly significant as the lake is undergoing redevelopment, presenting an opportunity to incorporate innovative solutions. The proposed intervention, Khambati Kuva, draws inspiration from traditional wells known for their exceptional stormwater percolation capabilities. The Kuva's porous honeycomb brick structure enhances water retention, while its design includes a top cover made of RCC for safety. The strategic placement of Khambati Kuva at the lakeside, with its steep edge, not only serves as a flood mitigation measure but also doubles as a pavilion. This dual functionality transforms the intervention into a communal space, providing an innovative solution to the flooding issue while adding value to the urban fabric. Moreover, the portfolio emphasizes a thoughtful approach to space-making elements above the Kuva, taking into account existing lake edge conditions, accessibility and the preservation of non-negotiable elements such as trees, shrines and the community's relationship with the lake. Through a meticulous design process, this studio showcases a holistic and sustainable solution to urban flooding, turning a climatic challenge into an opportunity for creating meaningful public spaces that resonate with the community's needs and aspirations.
