A city can be termed as layers of functional, psychological and agglomerative patterns which overlap too and function. Ahmedabad is a city located in the state of Gujarat, India declared as a heritage city. The Sabarmati River cuts Ahmedabad into east and west, as well as old and new respectively. “Understanding the City”, MUD Foundation 2019 studio at CEPT University, each student was given a square kilometre of land to be studied on these various aspects. The precinct, Hatkeshwar, situated at the old Ahmedabad and south-east to Kankaria Lake bordering by residential, industrial and textile mills. Based on the timeline on historic events, the emergence of major industries and mills around the area of Khokhra and Hatkeshwar lead to an increase in demand for employment. It has a social impact on the settlement with scattered typology. Migrants from various communities emerged because of the economic agglomeration as per the potential of its location. There is a junction of major road network which has a substantial development in terms of the ROW (Right of way). Emergence of flyover at the Hatkeshwar road during the year (2017-2018) as per satellite imagery study has impacted the infrastructure development as well. The publication is related to the effect of residential agglomeration and streets to the Hatkeshwar circle in terms of various parameters such as reinvent of community realm, local economies due to the emergence of commercial edges, implication on services such as waste disposal, transportation, the effect on land prices, and emergence on typologies with urban agglomeration.
