Surat was an important center for trade and commerce during the medieval era, with its strategic location on the Arabian Sea making it a hub for maritime trade. Today, Surat is known for its diamond and textile industries, with many textile markets and diamond cutting and polishing workshops located in the city. Surat, like many cities in India, faces various environmental pollution challenges. Hence to combat that, the aim of the DP is to strike a balance between environment and the economic growth to achieve urban resilience. To achieve that, the strategy is to create a system that helps the people and the society survive through the adversities and recover from them rapidly through infrastructural solutions along with promoting the economy, all along the growth corridors. In this system the key intervention is to involve the state as a decision maker in addressing only the negative externalities and let rest of the growth be market driven.
