The objective of the Development Plan Studio was to open up planning to students beyond the conventional way. Throughout the course of the studio, we have analyzed areas as small as 1 SQ.KM. precincts as well as entire cities. Apart from the preparation of the development plan, the studio also included analytical studies on development plans of various cities around the globe. The main focus of this studio was towards preparing a development plan of Surat through more innovative and liberal ways. As the portfolio progresses, it will be clear as radical ideas such an unlimited FSI and no FSI cap became a part of the development plan proposal. The concepts taught in the studio focused on doing away with the orthodox yellow, blue, purple colors of land use planning method and explore more liberal methods. The preparation of the development plan was spread over three iterations: existing situation analysis, zoning and proposals, and finally the detailed control regulations. This was done through numerous site visits, data collection and input lectures from faculties.
