Redeveloping Vishweshwar Chowkri for improved livability

The walled city of Jaipur has witnessed significant transformation driven by its burgeoning tourist activities. However, this rapid development has led to increased population densities around tourist attractions, exerting immense pressure on the existing infrastructure. Despite governmental initiatives focusing predominantly on enhancing tourist-centric areas, the development of residential spaces has occurred without a comprehensive urban framework plan. This report delves into the critical question of whether heritage city upliftment should solely prioritize tourist destinations or extend its scope to address the needs and interests of the residents residing in these areas. It serves as a comprehensive exploration of interventions and approaches aimed at improving the living conditions of the local populace. Through a meticulous analysis of the current urban fabric and its challenges, this report advocates for a holistic approach to increase livability in the residential chowkri of walled city. By identifying key areas of improvement and proposing tailored interventions, it lays the foundation for framework guided urban transformation that prioritizes the well-being and quality of life of all stakeholders.
