Impact of trees on the building cooling loads and energy

The DRP topic focuses on analyzing the seasonal impact of trees on the building cooling loads and its annual electricity consumption. The study is based on the three types of building ventilation modes, namely natural ventilation, fully air-conditioned mode, and mixed mode. To carry out the analysis for the topic, 8 trees that are common in the Indian context will be selected. The seasonal variation of these selected trees would be taken into consideration and will be broadly categorized into two major parameters that will affect the total building cooling loads as follows: a) Shading of the trees on the building façade affecting sensible cooling loads b) Change in the outdoor temperature and relative humidity due to evapo-transpiration rate of the respective trees affecting latent cooling loads.
