Application of Intelligent Transport System (ITS) as a mitigation measure at Accident prone stretches on highways passing through Urban sections
Rapid industrialization and the consequent urbanization have brought about an unprecedented revolution in the growth of motor vehicles all over the world; India is no exception. Today, man and his transport vehicles occupy a large share of the urban space. Traffic congestion, Air and Noise Pollution and the resultant ill-effects and frustrations have become the order of the day. Urban transportation systems are wilting under the pressure of ever-growing demands on inadequate street networks. Serpentine bus queues, pathetically packed suburban trains, and the scarcity of taxis during rush hours underscore the pressure on the mass transit system. The traffic problem itself is not new; what is new about it is its growing magnitude and complexity.
