Revenue Generation Potential through Carbon Credits from the Waste Treatment
There is tremendous potential in solid waste management operations starting from waste
segregation, collection, transportation, and disposal to reduce carbon emissions. Since the
introduction of Solid Waste Management Rules 2005 there is continuous improvement in the
waste cycle and the operations are becoming more and more efficient. Introduction of
Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) has further strengthened the ULBs with funds and technical
support to improve the operations cycle from cradle to grave. As a result there is reduction
in carbon emission, however the same needs quantification/documentation. The research
will quantify the impact of waste treatment operations in reducing carbon emissions and
estimateits monetary value.
