KPI Metrics Development Strategy for VDC in Design Management.

Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) is a type of technology that creates digital models of buildings and project sites. Architects, engineers, and contractors use VDC models to visualize and plan building designs, processes, schedules, budgets, and more. The VDC KPI for Design Management (DM) required to formulate to provide AEC professionals with a holistic, quantitative, practical and adaptive approach to evaluate and track VDC performance at DM stage. The metrics will cover the four major Areas of VDC Planning, Adoption, Technology and Performance, and the overall measurement on a percentage scale that reflects the project performance relative to the industry’s practice. As current research is primarily based on case-studies and anecdotal findings, data-based understand of VDC DM performance and related factors is a major drawback. Hence, the motivation for this study is the need to understand evolving VDC performance and adoption patterns, based on a verifiable data-collection from TTS.
