Comparative study of RCC and Steel-Concrete Composite commercial Buildings of varying heights

Structural steel is one of the most prevalent construction materials which can be seen as an important component of modern buildings. Composite construction involves properties of steel and concrete both in more efficient way. Steel – concrete composite construction comprises of composite slabs, composite beams and composite columns used individually or in different combinations to achieve cost effective and efficient construction. In composite steel concrete slab construction cast-in-place concrete is placed over steel sheeting supported by steel beams. Furthermore, the steel sheeting acts as a structural component as well as mould for concrete thus, reducing material consumption and promoting faster construction. This, in turn leads to economical and efficient construction technique. This research project has been proposed to assist structural designers to familiarize themselves with the components of this system. A typical commercial building is to be selected in Ahmedabad with varying heights for this study. Design and estimation of the cost of the building superstructure only is proposed.
