Passive Comfort Lab

Passive comfort lab combines concepts and practices, systems and strategies, simulation techniques, physical measurement and data comprehension. Concept and practices module includes understanding passive comfort design techniques including theory (thermal mass, shading, ventilation, modes of heat transfer); through case studies, site visits; rules of thumb and manual calculations and architectural implications of passive design. Through measurement and experimentation; conducting heat and mass transfer calculations in real situations, using handheld and long-term monitoring devices. Understanding thermal comfort concepts and its implications by conducting a thermal comfort survey, studying pmv, ppd and measuring instantaneous environmental conditions. Learning principles and concepts of simulation, its uses, with different types of tools. To simulate and analyze set of passive strategy and to observe its effects on annual energy consumption.
