The Passive Comfort Lab Studio provides an understanding of building physics and the concepts of heat transfer through building envelope. The studio also covers the fundamentals of passive design strategies and its effects on buildings energy usages and occupant’s thermal comfort. The studio initiates with the concepts of solar geometry, climate study and its determinants, weather station guidelines and its installation, further providing hands-on experience with varied instruments for measurements and experimentation. The design and fabrication of 1m3 volume space gave a comparative understanding of building fabric and its effect on thermal comfort. Building simulation module provided a broad and practical understanding of these basic concepts with the use of software’s like Design Builder, Climate Consultant and D-view used for simulations, and data sorting & visualization.
