The studio course, Passive Comfort Laboratory, focuses on climate and thereby its effect on buildings in terms of heat transfer and consequent energy usage. The climate was quantified in terms of the environmental variables and was analyzed to suggest relevant strategies for the building to maintain thermal comfort. The course project was introduced to incorporate the theoretical concepts of building physics into practice through suitable envelope optimization pertaining to the intent. The simulation module provided further comprehension on the impact of orientation and envelope on the heat interactions in a building, also showing the cooling requirement to tackle the gains.
