Three ports - JNPT, Mundra and Pipavav - account for around 98% of the total container traffic handled by the western zone. Mundra port is one of the best in the west zone in terms of infrastructure, efficiency as well as location. Mundra port has the highest draft, and the number of cranes, yard capacity and quay length are more than adequate according to the traffic that the port handles. Its current capacity utilization is only 57%, which is much below the optimal capacity utilization of 75%; the port has the capability to handle more traffic with the current infrastructure.
