Material management is a function which aims for integrated approach towards the management of materials in a concerned manner. All activities like purchase of materials, flow of materials, manufacturing to product, supply and sell of product in the market requires various types of materials to manage and control their storage, flow and supply at various places. It is only possible by efficient material management. The material requirements planning, purchasing, inventory planning, storage, inventory control, materials supply, transportation and materials handling are the key activities of material management.
