Metro Cities like Mumbai have the highest population density and house some of the biggest billionaires of the country. This city has some of the finest residential projects built up or is in the process. With future development, there is enough potential to change the face of the city and the country. These 13 weeks of training have been one hell of a journey which has changed me and my perspective to things starting from living all by myself to learning so many new things on site. I was indeed very lucky to get an opportunity to work with Shapoorji Pallonji, one of the finest construction companies in Mumbai. My site was Sarova city, located in Kandivali East. The site had all the functions relating to building high rise residential towers. We as interns were not only taught about the structure but were also exposed to the planning and management side, the billing process, the process of procuring the materials and so on. Some of the keys learning from these 13 weeks are: i. I learned the skill of implementing theoretical knowledge into actual practice. How the drawings are being implemented accurately. ii. It made me aware of how much responsibility and accountability an engineer holds when his/her structural designs are being implemented. iii. It helped me understand the minor changes that happen directly on site when there is some change in design or the material.iv. It opened new vistas for me to look at things differently. It helped me in expanding my scope of vision. v. This training offered me a huge amount of exposure and a chance to meet a lot of new people from skilled craftsman to senior engineer. Thus, in nutshell; this training has helped me evolve into a better version of myself and helped me realize the responsibilities and accountability I hold towards the things I design and also helped me. I realize that how one decision could affect a huge number of people. I look forward to playing my role as an engineer for the betterment of the people and strive to provide the best I can.
