Le(h) Rest Stop

Set within the stark high-altitude terrain of Leh, this subterranean rest stop offers thermal refuge and quiet introspection for travelers. Embedded into the earth for passive climate control, the structure subtly emerges above ground through courtyards and light wells, drawing in natural light while minimizing environmental impact. Inspired by local stone, wind-swept forms, and the meditative rhythm of the journey, the design blends traditional wisdom with contemporary restraint. Earth, light, and silence shape the spatial experience, creating a warm pause point within an otherwise unforgiving landscape.
