Unveiling the Complexities and Design of Veiled Facades

This research examines the spatial and functional roles of Mughal Jaalis at Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri, using fractal dimension analysis to study the correlation between the Geometric patterns in these Jaalis and the programs they are assigned with, along with a deeper analysis of historical stories and architectural features of Akbar, Jehangir and Shah Jahan aligning with the Jaali design. Patterns were categorized as simple or complex, monolithic or segregated, and original or retrofitted. The impact of altered or replaced Jaalis on view clarity, privacy, and functional performance was evaluated, especially where retrofitted units deviate from traditional geometry.
