This study explores adaptive reuse as a sustainable strategy to preserve the cultural identity and architectural grandeur of South Bombay’s colonial buildings. Focusing on case studies of IFBE and Anita Dongre’s Flagship Store, it examines how heritage structures can be adapted for contemporary use while maintaining historical value. Through ethnographic and documentary analysis, the study assesses functionality, materiality, and user experience in reuse projects. Highlighting the challenges posed by bureaucratic constraints and lack of awareness in India, the paper advocates for adaptive reuse as a key approach to heritage conservation, encouraging informed architectural and policy decisions for urban and cultural continuity.
