Resilience Thrift - Architectural Repair Strategies in Informal Settlements

To investigate the design strategies already in place in informal settlements to address climatic hardships, such as heatwaves, floods, storms, and epidemics through vector-borne disease. The research supports the larger project of designing retrofits to improve climatic resilience in informal settlements - this is an urgent problem which must be addressed by architects and not only by engineers. A repository of detailed ground knowledge will help to create a stronger base for successful design retrofit implementation, which works with the knowledge that already exists in communities dealing with climate vulnerabilities, but which is poorly understood by professionals and decision makers.
