Impermanance : Dwelling In Motion

Designing for the Maldhari community of Gir Forest required careful understanding of the forest landscape. Being semi-nomadic pastoralists who travel for eight months and stay in the forest during monsoon, the design needed to address both monsoon and travelling shelters. The activities of the whole Maldhari family paved the way for spaces to emerge. The design attempts to understand the sensitivity with which the Maldhari builds—in impermanence—while addressing existing configurations of spaces to foster connection. A narrative imagined through the eyes of a sheep generated the final composition, which was elaborated by drawing.
