Prakrutivaas blends Prakruti (nature) and Vaas (to dwell), envisioning a sustainable living space for the Maldharis — a pastoral community that has lived with their cattle in the Gir Forest for generations. Located in Alavani Ness, the project respects the forest’s delicate ecosystem, ensuring minimal intervention in the natural landscape and wildlife. Cattle are central to Maldhari life, serving as both livelihood and cultural heritage. Their daily activities, traditions, and identity are closely tied to cattle-rearing, making it essential to design spaces that support both human and animal needs. Prakrutivaas focuses on understanding the Maldharis’ lifestyle to create meaningful, functional dwellings that blend with their surroundings. The thoughtful use of materials strengthens structures while maintaining a low environmental impact, reflecting a balance between tradition, utility, and conservation.
