Framed Voids, Living Walls

Set within the rugged contours of Jawai, Rajasthan, this residence draws from local stone craft and Peter Zumthor’s Atmospheres, merging material honesty with spatial emotion. It is home to an elderly landscape artist and a young wildlife photographer. Thick 1.2m cavity stone walls define the structure, acting as thermal buffers and spatial organizers—carved to house niches and intimate rooms. Floating concrete slabs hover lightly above the terrain, framing daylight and landscape. The home responds to site-specific climate analysis, balancing solar gain and ventilation. A contemplative retreat, it evokes silence, weight, and warmth—rooted in the land, yet elevated in experience.
