Presence

Nestled within the hills of Jawai(Rajasthan), facing a river, this design for a researcher/landscape artist and her intern, a wildlife photographer explores Peter Zumthor's atmospheric principles to craft a journey of discovery. The design unfolds from a seemingly mundane linear mass into a sequence of spaces that foster distinct sensory experiences: "sky sense", "horizon sense" and "inwardness sense". The approach is a carefully choreographed path revealing the mountainous backdrop and entrance, leading into interiors where varied volumes, levels and light manipulation create a dynamic flow. The overarching idea is to use perceptible changes these elements generate to make one "remain present".
