ORIGINS: HOLISTIC MEDICAL RESEARCH CENTRE & MUSEUM

Centre for Holistic Medical Research & Anatomy Museum is a design-led interior design project that explores the intersection of material sustainability and vernacular wisdom. Set within the context of BJ Medical College, Ahmedabad, this proposal envisions a community-centered space that reinterprets traditional building practices through a contemporary lens. The project acts as a living lab for demonstrating how locally available natural materials and construction techniques can shape resilient, context-aware, and environmentally responsible interiors. Conceived as a learning environment and material exploration hub, the project integrates craft-based elements and spatial design strategies. It challenges conventional material choices by advocating for renewable, low-impact alternatives, while also celebrating the tactile and cultural richness embedded in vernacular traditions. Through a methodical design process — from context mapping and material selection to prototype making and BOQ development — the project reflects a holistic approach to sustainable interior design.
