BENEATH THE CANOPY

Beneath the Canopy reimagines the IIT Bombay campus as a space where architecture listens to nature. Rooted in the institute’s no-cut tree policy, the project transforms forgotten green patches into vibrant social terrains. Through timber platforms, flowing contours, and verandah-like spaces nestled around trees, it blurs boundaries between built and unbuilt. Instead of imposing on the landscape, the intervention wraps, hovers, and emerges from it—inviting moments of pause, gathering, and learning. Movement is choreographed by topography, not hierarchy. Here, trees are not backdrop—they are anchors. The campus doesn’t just grow around them. It grows with them.
