Sonic Crossings: Making and Music

Located in the vibrant Shibuya district of Tokyo, Sonic Crossings merges dynamic sound-making spaces with the craftsmanship &intense public flow of the city. Cantilevered structures, bridge connections, and semi-circular voids create a fluid landscape that supports both craftsmanship and public engagement. Inspired by Shibuya’s iconic crossings and rooftop culture, the design prioritizes movement, layered visibility, and interaction without disruption. Workshops, rehearsal spaces, and the rooftop Sound Park form an interconnected environment where making, performing, and observing coexist. Public walkways allow glimpses into the creative process, weaving visitors into the sonic experience while maintaining clear thresholds for focused work and collaboration.
