Silent Repairs: Reclaiming Modern Heritage

This studio explores the conservation of Le Corbusier’s Mill Owners’ Association Building through a critical lens of modern heritage. Students will investigate concrete decay, structural repair strategies, and urban reintegration while maintaining the building’s architectural integrity. Through analytical models, mapping, and argumentative writing, the studio will address accessibility, adaptive reuse, and the ethical dilemmas of modifying iconic architecture. The aim is to reframe ATMA House as a dynamic civic space—accessible, contextually embedded, and relevant to contemporary users—while preserving its material and conceptual legacy within Ahmedabad’s evolving urban fabric.
