Nature's Edge: Integrating Ecology, Culture and Public

Nature’s Edge: Harmonizing Culture, Ecology and Public Space is a landscape design project at Govardhan Sagar Lake, Udaipur, that reimagines the lakefront as a space of co-existence between people, nature, and cultural practices. The design addresses ecological degradation, stormwater mismanagement, and fragmented access through integrated strategies like bioswales, rainwater harvesting, avifauna-supportive mounds, and native planting. Three key zones Smriti Vaan (ecological), the Kund and Ghat (cultural), and the Entrance Avenue (recreational) are developed to support habitat restoration, cultural rituals, and public engagement. The project fosters a resilient, multisensory landscape that encourages learning, connection, and long-term stewardship of the lake.
