The Kaanch Studio is a specialized workspace for the design and fabrication of stained glass artifacts, rooted in the conceptual language of glass itself—its capacity to absorb, reflect, filter, and fragment. Drawing from the process of crafting stained glass—where glass is initially broken into fragments—the project reinterprets this act of fragmentation through spatial division, material expression, and form.
A 45-degree grid derived from existing beams fragments the space, guiding the placement and geometry of zones. Each zone is designed around a key conceptual property: “filter” informs the reception area, shaped to guide and separate flows of movement; “absorb” governs the workspaces and meeting zones, marked by concave curvatures that metaphorically absorb dialogue and ideas; while “reflect” defines the workshop with convex surfaces echoing the reflective nature of glass and creative feedback.
Further depth is added by the use of linear elements referencing the soldering lines in stained glass, guiding visual continuity across floors, ceilings, partitions, and custom furniture. A central partition evokes Gestalt’s law of closure, appearing as a fragmented circle that never fully resolves, reinforcing the conceptual theme. Material palettes—brass inlays, micro-concrete tones, stained glass ceiling panels—tie the experience to both craft and concept
