This project proposes the adaptive reuse of the historic Convent of Santa Monica in North Goa into a high-end backpacker hostel that blends heritage conservation with modern comfort and cultural immersion. Targeting affluent backpackers and digital nomads, the hostel aims to offer a social stay experience set in a region that draws year-round tourism, especially from experience-driven Millennials and Gen Z travelers. The design approach honors the architectural rhythm and grid of the original church structure, where repetition and spatial layering historically guided movement. Rather than erasing this order, the intervention introduces subtle disruptions that invite curiosity and exploration, transforming a static, linear layout into a dynamic and unfolding guest experience. This blend of preserved structure and contemporary spatial narrative will foster meaningful engagement, encourage social interaction, and establish the hostel as a unique cultural landmark.
