Urban riverfronts in India are increasingly engineered, ignoring natural riverine ecologies. This study critiques frameworks like the URMP and WFD for their ecological shortcomings and explores how planners perceive urban rivers. Drawing from Christophe Girot’s four traces, the study follows a comparative assessment of frameworks on the Vishwamitri River through soil, hydrology, and climate lenses. The research then proposes revised guidelines. By merging ecological understanding with planning, it advocates for resilient riverfronts that reconcile human intervention with natural systems.
