Enhancing NMT and Junction Redesign for a Safer Surat

The Strategic Transport Plan for Surat envisions a safe, inclusive, and carbon-neutral urban mobility system by 2047. My proposal focuses on enhancing Non-Motorized Transport (NMT) through a citywide footpath network, especially in accident-prone and high-footfall areas like Pandesara. Addressing severe pedestrian infrastructure gaps, it includes accessible, shaded, and continuous footpaths. Additionally, the junction design proposal targets 69 critical intersections, improving pedestrian safety and reducing conflict through geometric redesign and traffic calming. These interventions aim to reduce accidents, encourage walking, and improve last-mile connectivity, aligning with Surat’s sustainable transport goals under the CMP and strategic planning framework.
