Land–Transport Integration: IPT as a Regulatory Tool

This project focuses on regulating Intermediate Public Transport (IPT) to support land–transport integration and strengthen Surat’s public transit system. Currently, IPT competes with PT, causing inefficiencies and safety issues. By restructuring IPT routes, implementing an 8-year vehicle age limit, digital permits, and promoting EVs, IPT will serve as a last-mile feeder. Integrated land–transport planning aligns IPT with key nodes, industrial hubs, and TOD corridors to ensure seamless connectivity. Inspired by London’s model, these reforms aim to increase PT mode share from 2% to 25% by 2047, reduce emissions, and promote  accessible, and sustainable urban development in Surat.
