“Less is more.” This idea shaped the parking strategy developed during the Strategic Transportation Studio for Surat. As part of the Strategic Transportation Studio for Surat, work focused on population and workforce participation projections to understand travel demand in a high-growth city. The next phase addressed parking issues, analyzing on-street and off-street patterns, duration of use, and space inefficiencies. In the proposal stage, under the group ‘Nirman’, a parking strategy was developed recommending parking maximums, reduction of on-street parking, and dedicated long-duration parking below flyovers. A revised pricing model was also proposed to regulate demand. These interventions aimed to support efficient land use, reduce congestion, and promote sustainable urban mobility for Surat’s future.
