Elements of Urban Design: Case, Street, and Block

This studio focused on understanding and applying the fundamental elements of urban design through a progressive exploration of case studies, street-level interventions, and block-scale design. The course was structured around three core modules—beginning with the analytical study of a successful public space (One Green Mile, Mumbai), followed by a context-responsive street redesign (Relief Road, Ahmedabad), and culminating in a comprehensive block-level design proposal for the Vasna Vegetable Market area. Through these stages, the studio emphasized reading urban form, designing for public life, and integrating physical, social, and ecological dimensions of city-making. The design process was supported by iterative feedback, site analysis, and drawing-based inquiry, aiming to develop spatial strategies that are inclusive, walkable, and adaptable to evolving urban conditions.
