Elements of Urban Design

The studio was structured as an introduction to Urban Design. Through this studio, I could analyze and understand Streets and Urban Blocks as two modules. The first module began with understanding street design and its principles and characteristics, using the case study of Stroget, Copenhagen, where material and street elements play a crucial role in such designs. The next step was to redesign a Street in Ahmedabad called Swami Vivekananda Road, where a clear understanding of the space, requirements, and design principles was necessary. The second module focused on Urban Blocks and Public Spaces. The precinct chosen to redesign was Bopal Lake and its surrounding spaces. Understanding the character of the urban block, Requirements, larger connectivity, and broader vision for the block were necessary while designing the Urban Block.
