This semester focused on reimagining public interfaces through three interconnected modules. Module 01A examined Pondy Bazaar in Chennai, a street known for its high pedestrian priority and wide footpaths, offering insights into active edges, informal vending, and walkability. Building on these learnings, Module 01B proposed an enhancement of IOC Street in Chandkheda, a neighborhood street in Ahmedabad. The design aimed to formalize informal markets, improve ground-floor engagement, and introduce traffic-calming and UHI mitigation strategies to create a walkable, accessible, and climate-responsive street. Module 02 shifted focus to an urban block scale, envisioning the transformation of Ahmedabad’s East Riverfront into a vibrant, mixed-use zone. The proposal integrated transit, retail, and leisure in a continuous ‘train of activities’ to support a dynamic urban ecosystem. Together, the modules explored how responsive public space design at various scales can promote livability, inclusivity, and sustainability in growing Indian cities.
