Urbanizing Gamtals

The proposal explores ways to enhance the socio-spatial representation of gamtals, with Paldi Gamtal taken up as a pilot case. It argues that a subtle yet deliberate nudge is essential to transform the existing fabric of gamtals—enabling them to achieve stronger representation within the urban context they inhabit. This transformation is not only about visibility but also about empowering residents, integrating regulatory mechanisms, and unlocking market value for the benefit of the community. Central to this strategy is a design tool called SCOOP, which focuses on strategic clustering. By carving out internal spaces for social benefit, SCOOP becomes a catalytic mechanism that initiates change and redefines the role of gamtals within the contemporary urban fabric.
