Pretension U-girder Bridge With Circular Pier & Pile

This project focuses on the design of a 24-meter span pretensioned U-Girder bridge located in Guwahati, incorporating circular piers and pile foundations. The objective was to develop an efficient and structurally sound solution suited to the region's seismic Zone V conditions and high wind velocities. A comprehensive analysis was performed using grillage modeling in STAAD, accounting for construction stages and load effects. Key design components included girder flexure and shear capacity, strand profiling with initial loss assumptions, and checks for stress under various loading conditions. Additionally, temperature effects, seismic, wind, and braking forces were evaluated. The substructure—comprising pier cap, pier, pile cap, and piles—was designed for strength, serviceability, and stability, including slenderness and confinement checks. The outcome is a safe and durable bridge structure that aligns with modern design standards and site-specific demands.
