Traditionally, the industry has focused on mitigating operational carbon, the emissions associated with energy use throughout a building's lifecycle, through energy efficiency policies like ECBC. However, embodied carbon—the emissions generated from extracting, manufacturing, and transporting building materials—has been overlooked, despite its growing share of the total carbon footprint. Addressing embodied carbon is crucial to achieving overall carbon reduction targets in the construction sector.
